This was the era of:

  • The first Monaro
  • The mighty 308 V8
  • The luxury Brougham
  • The luxury long wheelbase Statesman
  • The rugged Utes and Panel Vans
  • The legendary Sandman
  • The final big‑body Holden before the Commodore era took over

Across HK, HT, HG, HQ, HJ, HX, HZ and WB, Holden refined its formula — bigger bodies, stronger drivetrains, improved comfort, and unmistakable Australian style.

HK Holden — 1968 to 1969

The beginning of a legend. The HK introduced Holden’s first V8, the Chevrolet‑sourced 307, and debuted the iconic Monaro — a car that instantly became a motorsport and cultural icon. With fresh styling and new engineering, the HK set the tone for the next two decades.

Explore HK

HT Holden — 1969 to 1970

More power, more refinement. The HT replaced the 307 with Holden’s own 253 and 308 V8 engines, marking a major milestone in local performance engineering. Styling tweaks and mechanical improvements made the HT a stronger, more capable evolution of the HK.

Explore HT

HG Holden — 1970 to 1971

The final step before the HQ revolution. The HG brought updated trim, improved brakes, and the introduction of the GTS 350 — one of the most desirable Monaros ever built. It represents the peak of the first-generation H Series.

Explore HG

HQ Holden — 1971 to 1974

A complete redesign and an Australian icon. The HQ introduced an entirely new body, chassis, and suspension system. It became one of Holden’s best‑selling models and spawned legendary variants including the SS, GTS, Sandman, and the long‑wheelbase Statesman.

Explore HQ

HJ Holden — 1974 to 1976

Sharper styling and improved safety. The HJ refined the HQ’s shape with a more aggressive front end and updated interior options. It continued Holden’s dominance in the large‑car market and strengthened the Statesman’s luxury appeal.

Explore HJ

HX Holden — 1976 to 1977

The era of the Sandman. The HX introduced new emissions‑compliant engines and delivered one of Holden’s most iconic lifestyle vehicles — the Sandman Panel Van and Ute. Today, HX Sandmans are among the most collectible Holdens ever built.

Explore HX

HZ Holden — 1977 to 1980

Radial Tuned Suspension changes everything. The HZ delivered a major handling breakthrough with RTS, transforming the way Holden’s big cars drove. Combined with updated styling and strong V8 options, the HZ is considered one of the best-driving H Series models.

Explore HZ

WB Holden — 1980 to 1984

The final chapter of the big-body era. The WB was available only as a commercial (Ute, Van) or luxury long‑wheelbase Statesman. With modernised styling and improved comfort, it represents the last of the traditional full-size Holdens before the Commodore era took over.
