The FC Holden was a minor facelift of the previous FE model, introduced in July 1958. Although it looked very similar, it did feature some minor upgrades and improvements over the previous model. Any driven and compared the last 2 models could definitely feel the difference from behind the steering wheel.

The car sold well as Holden would continue to branch out with more luxury options and trim levels available.

All models were powered by a 132-cubic-inch (2.2 L) six-cylinder engine, which produced 72 brake horsepower (54 kW). This engine, carried over from the FE series came with a few minor improvements. The transmission remained the same. The drivetrain had gained a reputation for durability, even with a relatively small amount of maintenance.

In this time Holden were continuing to build a reputation for building quality cars. At this stage, the original 48-215 Holden had been on the roads for 10 years. The Australian buying public had seen first hand how well Holdens held up against Australian driving conditions. This in turn ended up being a great advertisement for the Holden brand.

Hailed as a practical car, quite simple but it still delivered what Australian consumers demanded at the time. It did however, feature a higher level of chrome work than previously seen in earlier model Holden’s, giving it a touch of class.

It was a popular car and sold well with 191,724 produced, after which it would replaced by the FB Holden in January 1960.
