The FB Holden replaced the FC, the new model officially introduced to the Australian driving public on the 14th of January, 1960.

The FB was a slightly larger and heavier model than the previous one. This increase in size and weight, coupled with only a small increase in engine power, resulted in a car that felt sluggish and less fuel efficient, according to many buyers.

Cosmetic differences on the FB included the lower bonnet, finned rear mudguards with new taillights (on the sedans and wagons only) and a wrap-around windscreen. It also featured more bootspace.

Most of the money spent on research and development materialised in cosmetic upgrades, seen as just adding weight to the car by many buyers. There was little technological change with the car.

It became the first Holden produced as a left hand drive. In turn this opened up a large number of potential export markets for Holden.

All models were powered by the same engine and transmission as the previous model FE Holden. The mechanicals were still very similar to the original 48-215 Holden. While still reliable, it was getting a little long in the tooth.

Production totaled of 147,747 cars.

The FB received more criticism than any previous model. Some would consider this model to be a step backwards. Regardless, it still sold well and Holden continued to built their brand.
